100 kVA generator fuel consumption: compare the model and load

The short answer

There is no verified litres-per-hour figure that applies to every 100 kVA set. Compare the chosen model at a stated load and duty. Where its datasheet does not publish consumption, request the manufacturer’s fuel curve with your quotation; do not substitute another engine’s figure.

First identify which 100 kVA rating you mean

Our catalogue includes models that reach 100 kVA in different duties. The Blackwell B110GH-SB publishes 100 kVA prime and 110 kVA standby, while the FG Wilson FB100-4A publishes 100 kVA prime without a separate standby rating. Specify the duty and actual electrical load before comparing consumption.

What a useful fuel comparison needs

Request litres per hour at stated load points, the rating used for those percentages, frequency, supplied engine and generator configuration, and the test conditions. A percentage of standby output is not necessarily the same electrical load as the same percentage of prime output.

Load varies through the day. Record expected running loads, operating hours and idle periods rather than treating maximum output as a typical day’s use.

Tank size is not a consumption figure

The published FG Wilson FB100-4A tank capacity is 250 litres. That alone does not establish runtime. Gross tank capacity is not necessarily usable fuel, and reserve fuel, operating limits and varying load must be considered.

For a steady load, usable litres divided by verified litres per hour gives an approximate runtime. For a varying load, use the consumption curve and time spent at each load; have refuelling and reserve requirements checked for the installation.
